Shalulile & Zwane lead PSL Player of Year nominations
As the current domestic football season draws to a close,
Mamelodi Sundowns duo Peter Shalulile and Themba Zwane lead the list of
nominees for the upcoming PSL Awards.
With Sundowns on the verge of a fourth consecutive DSTV Premiership crown, the pair have been pivotal to their success and have been nominated for three awards each at the end of season bonanza.
Shalulile's involvement in the Brazilians' push for the domestic title has been crucial and the Namibian forward has been recognised in the Footballer of the Season, Players' Player of the Season and Nedbank Cup Player of the Season categories.
His Downs team-mate Zwane has also received three nods, sharing the same categories with Shalulile for Footballer and Players' Player of the Season awards while he's also been nominated in the Midfielder of the Year category.
Maritzburg United forward Thabiso Kutumela is the third player that is nominated in the PSL Footballer of the Year category.
In the Coach of the Year group of nominees, AmaZulu's Benni McCarthy takes on his fellow KZN coach Mandla Mcikazi from Golden Arrows and the Mamelodi Sundowns pair of Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena.
McCarthy's rise to coach of the year nominee is an impressive one given that he only took over at the helm of Usuthu in December but has guided them to second place on the DSTV Premiership log.
The PSL Awards will take place on Sunday, 6 June.
