North - This area over the last week produced some good size Couta on both live and dead baits, most of the bigger fish being landed on Walla Walla fished slightly deeper. Remember, when fishing with Walla Walla, that a minimum of four treble hooks should be used. These hooks should be spaced evenly apart reaching right to the back, some anglers use as much as six or eight hooks per bait. Because Walla Walla are so thin and flat they need at least a 1oz bait swimmer. Mad Fish and The Kingfisher make some great bait swimmers ranging all the way up to 3oz. Vidal, Maphelane, St Lucia and Sodwana are all producing good catches of Couta. Dorado have been seen in the deep and some good specimens are still being landed. Reports abound of good Snoek up to 7kgs being landed at Tinley Manor on fillets. Many smaller Snoek were caught on lures such as Kingfisher Rattlers and Strike Pro Magic Minnows. Although the water has been more dirty than off colour (green), the Snoek have not minded hanging around.

Central - Durban is still keeping anglers busy with Snoek, Couta, Dorado and plenty of Tuna. The bigger Tuna have been landed on the bait marks on live bait, including a Couta or two to the lucky ones who do not get bitten off with nylon traces. Hermann caught two very nice Sailfish from his jetski on lures off Ballito over the weekend. These fish were hooked at the same time and as many anglers will know, it is no easy task to boat two fish simultaneously hooked, especially off a jetski.  Anglers have been seeing a few Queenfish off the bait marks. Remember; increase your chances of a bite by using fluorocarbon leaders when targeting these fish.

South - Protea Banks have produced good catches of Yellowfin Tuna on lures being trawled at fast speeds up to 18km. Surface lures such as H2O feathers and Williamson Konas have been working well.
