Rhulani Mokwena leaves Mamelodi Sundowns
Updated | By Newswatch
Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday confirmed the departure of head coach Rhulani Mokwena.
Mokwena leaves the club after guiding them to a seventh straight Premiership title last season.
In a statement, the Pretoria-based club said the agreement to end Mokwena’s time at Sundowns was reached “amicably”.
“The decision of Mamelodi Sundowns was taken by the board taking into account the objectives and expectations of the club and was not influenced or based on the recommendation of any individual associated with the club,” the club said amid reports of tensions between Mokwena and sporting director Flemming Berg.
“Coach Manqoba Mngqithi and the Technical Team will continue to lead and take control of the training and preparation of the players for the upcoming season,” it added.
