The news is a boon after the Springboks were dealt a serious blow ahead of their November 3 clash against England at Twickenham.

England’s Premiership Rugby has stood firm by its policy to not release English-based Springboks for the match.

It means that the Springboks will be unable to call upon the services of several key players including scrumhalf Faf de Klerk, fullback Willie le Roux, prop Vincent Koch, lock Franco Mostert and veteran flank Francois Louw.

With the Test match falling outside of World Rugby’s official international window, English clubs are not obliged to release players for international duty.

Reinach available

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has been given a lifeline in terms of his scrumhalf options, considering that first choice Faf de Klerk won’t be able to play.

Cobus Reinach, who joined Northampton Saints in 2017, has made it clear that his contract ensured that he will always be available for Springbok duty.

“Last year when we announced that I was going overseas, I ensured that I will always be available if selected by the Springboks. Other than that, who’s available and who isn’t doesn’t really matter, my focus has always been on being the best I can be. If that is good enough, I am ready,” Reinach told OFM Sport.
