Proteas, West Indies 2nd Test drawn in PE

The second Test between the Proteas and the West Indies resulted in a draw as bad weather scrapped any thoughts of play on day five in Port Elizabeth today.

The West Indies had collapsed to 275 for nine at the close of play on day four, still trailing by 142 runs after South Africa's first innings of 417 for eight declared.

As it was, there was little chance of a result on the last day before overnight rains ensured the outfield was too wet for any play.

Morne Morkel was left one short of a five-wicket haul after returning figures of 4/69.

Imran Tahir also chipped in with 3/108 including the wicket of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, bowled between his legs late in the day.

With Kraigg Brathwaite (106) and Marlon Samuels (101) notching up centuries, the rain denied South Africa the chance to bowl out a side for under 300 for the fourth time in Tests despite two batsman scoring tons.

Brathwaite and Samuels compiled a 176 run stand -- the highest ever for the third wicket for the West Indies against South Africa.

In South Africa's first innings, Dean Elgar made 121, opening the batting, while Faf du Plessis also made three figures with 103.

Elgar and Du Plessis put on 179, and occupied the crease for 378 balls to notch up the highest second-wicket stand at the ground, as the West Indies were battered by the Proteas batsmen on day one.

South Africa won the first of three Tests.

The final match start on Friday in Cape Town.
