Proteas deny ball tampering claims

Proteas manager Mohammed Moosajee has denied claims by Australian opening batsman David Warner that ball tampering by South Africa led to them winning the second Test.

"David Warner's remarks are disappointing and discouraging. It takes the gloss off a great Proteas team performance," Moosajee was quoted as saying.

"It smacks of sour grapes and it could just be a tactical plan to get us involved in matters that will distract our attention from this crucial Test in Cape Town. "Hardly anyone takes anything David Warner says seriously anyway," he reportedly said in a thinly veiled reference to Warner's recent Twitter attacks on two leading Australian cricket writers. Warner was fined for the incidents.

Warner reportedly told Sky Sports Radio the Australians found issue with wicket-keeper AB de Villiers' method of handling the ball.

"We were questioning whether De Villiers would get the ball in his hand, and with his glove wipe the rough side every ball," he reportedly said.

Proteas batsman Faf du Plessis was fined for ball tampering in the second Test against Pakistan in October last year.
