Portugal survive World Cup exit

Portugal were on the verge of a premature exit at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil in the early hours this morning.

The Portuguese having taken the lead within the first 5 minutes of the game through Manchester United's winger Nani, let their lead slip and found themselves 2-1 down heading into the last minute of the game.

Cristiano Ronaldo was closely marked throughout the entire game, the Americans knew just one piece of magic from the World Player of the Year could change the whole complexion of the game.

Indeed, that's all it took as the Portuguese skipper played in a magical cross in the last minute of the game to find Varela, who levelled matters and kept Carlo Bento's side alive in the competition.

As it stands Germany and USA lead Group G on 4 points, Ghana and Portugal are 3rd and 4th respectively on a point a piece.
