Port Shepstone kingfish action
Updated | By Staff Writer
Toti/Winkelspruit – Has been very quiet this last week with local anglers reporting baits coming back as they were put in. These areas should improve next week with more preferable conditions.
Umkomaas – Slipperies is still fishing well, but getting overcrowded as word has spread. Umkomaas river mouth has also seen some grunter and a few small skates. The ledges have produced the odd sand shark although many anglers have been cut off by the numerous rocks in this area.
Scottburgh/Umdoni – Scottburgh point has been fishing well with Umdoni a little quieter. Bigger grey sharks in the 10 to 15 kilo range and some bigger skates are being caught here. Shad seem to have gone into hiding with only a rare big shad being caught on a mackerel slide-bait.
Port Shepstone – A fair number of sand sharks have come out in the Sandspit area, especially in the late afternoons on low tide. Early morning anglers saw some shad with the odd kingfish also coming out on Kingfisher Jet spoons with light spinning tackle.
Transkei – Time for the big boys to come out and play. This time of year sees the bigger sharks on the bite and places like Mazeppa Bay and Hole-in-the-Wall are probably the most popular spots and should turn on any day now. Yellowtail, bonito and big mackerel are the choice baits to use. There are also still a few big shad biting in this area.
