Plenty grunter at Blue Lagoon

Kosi Bay - has been fishing quite well over the last few days with bigger Sharks and Honeycombs. Edible fish species of all types were landed over the weekend and a very nice Sea Pike of 16kg was also caught.
Cape Vidal - has produced an impressive amount of Bonefish and 3-Spot Pompano, while the spinning enthusiasts were kept very busy catching smaller Kingfish, mainly Bluefin Kingies. The odd Blackfin Reef Shark has been landed at night on large fish baits such as Yellowtail and Bonito.
Maphelane - has had thousands of Shad making pests of themselves by eating any bait that hits the water, irrespective of size. Even live Shad have been eaten by other Shad. In situations like this, unfortunately the only thing one can do is relocate to areas which have not seen shad activity. There will be more edible fish in these areas but not as many gamefish, which generally follow the Shad. If it is your wish to catch these smaller shad all day long, then the right choice would be small spoons such as the Toby spoon, just remember your size and bag limits.
Richards Bay - has seen more than enough Milk Sharks hooked, but there are few fish that get to the bait before these Sharks latch on and ruin a well presented offering. The Bay itself has impressed many anglers with its offerings, mainly during the day on spinning tackle for those who seek gamefish. Kingfish and Springer have been more than active for many anglers using small top water lures and 14g Snoek spoons.
Salt Rock - and surrounding areas have been productive recently, but over the weekend more so than before, with a good amount of Stumpies and Blacktip Kingies being landed on throw baits. The Kingies have also been hooked on spoons and McArthy drop-shot.
Ballito - anglers have been treated to one or two Duckbill Rays and the odd Grey Shark on larger throw baits. Most anglers throwing small blob baits for Stumpies and Pompano have been picked up by smaller Browns as well.
Westbrook - has been relatively quiet of late, but over the last week or so some good sized Bonefish were landed. These were mainly caught on soft and juicy Chokka baits. A few Spinner Sharks have been landed in the evening too.
Umhlanga - has been struggling a bit, but did pick up towards the end of the week with Shad, Grey Sharks and Stumpies being landed. Most of the Shad were unfortunately undersized.
Durban Piers - have been producing fish such as Grunter and Pompano on Sardine. Blue Lagoon saw many Grunter coming out on most days last week, with some anglers getting as many as 5 fish. Remember the size limit of 40cm.
Umkomaas - has seen some small Kob becoming more and more frequent which is a very good indication of the change of season. Soon we will be seeing bigger Kob and Garrick moving up the coast. Brown Skates seem to have moved on from this area.
Ladder Rock - has been starting to get some action from Hound Sharks, taking mainly big and bloody baits. Be sure to use steel trace in this area.
Port Edward - has seen Shad on the bite again, eating mostly late afternoon and into the dark. Bronze Bream have also being coming out although many fish not making the legal size of 30 cm. Hound Sharks and Lesser Sand Sharks have also been taking baits here.
Port St John's - The Hole In The Wall and surrounding areas produced some Blackfin Sharks and Hammerhead Sharks. Some nice Shad have also been landed.
