Pumula on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast hosted the fifth annual Quattro King of the Sea fishing contest over the past weekend.

The event was open to ski-boat, jet-ski and kayak anglers.

Pieter Bodenstein caught the biggest fish.

Bodenstein landed his 31.7 kilogram couta from a ski-boat.

I also fished the Quattro from a ski-boat and came within a whisker of catching a nice yellowfin tuna.

However, the lucky fish slipped my hook just as Nikao Fishing Adventures skipper, Richard Chivers, was about to gaff it.

We later had two hooked fish taken by sharks. Both sharks leapt well clear of the ocean surface in the process.

Alain Tardin had hoped to fish, but suffered damage to his kayak on the trip down to Pumula from Durban.

Fishing Freaks, Wes Cruickshanks and Dick Lange, did manage time on the water.

However, both drew blanks from their respective kayaks.

The images below were taken at Pumula Beach Hotel. It served as host venue for the Quattro.

(These three tuna all weighed about 16 kilograms. They were caught on the final day)

(This couta weighed around 15 kilograms. It was one of the bigger ones caught at Quattro 2014)

(There was also plenty to enjoy for those not directly involved in the fishing at Pumula)

I hope to return to Pumula next year and to get on the scoreboard at Quattro King of the Sea 2015.

My wife is still waiting for some fresh tuna and I had better make sure the hook sticks next year.
