New Autumn dates confirmed for aQuellé Tour Durban

Into its thirtieth edition the iconic Durban cycling event makes a return to its familiar Autumn date, after being staged as a virtual event following it's Covid-enforced cancellation in 2020 and moved to November in 2021 to escape the grips of the pandemic and being held in September this year.

"There are a great deal of role-players involved in the organisation of the aQuellé Tour Durban, and it has been interesting to be responsible for putting on the events during the last few years," said race director Alec Lenferna.

"We are excited to be able to get the race back to the Autumn time frame that many of its supporters are familiar with," he added.

Lenferna said the passion for the event from its beneficiary The Domino Foundation, the broader cycling community and especially the sponsors had carried the event through the challenges of the last three years and said that he was confident that the event returning to its Autumn time period will resonate with the road riders and mountain-bikers that have been loyal supporters of the event.

"The race has always been a Ride4Good as everyday people who love to ride their bikes in a safe and secure and fun environment get together to do what they love in support of The Domino Foundation," he explained.

Lenferna said that more details will be finalised regarding the routes and formats for the mountain bike rides and the road races in the coming weeks, and that entries would open in February.

"We are grateful to the many supporters that have engaged with us over the years, helping us to steer this great event in the right direction," said Lenferna.

"The return to the Autumn date will be a popular one, as the appeal of the great weather at that time of the year and the full road closures have been consistently identified as important features of the races.

"Together with the focus on delivering a fun, well-organised day that is great value-for-money, we look forward to delivering a memorable weekend of riding on the trails and freeways of Durban to celebrate the race's 30th birthday in May," he said.
