Muthusamy and Van Jaarsveld star for Dolphins

A maiden Sunfoil Series century by rookie Senuran Muthusamy along with a bustling ton by veteran Vaughn van Jaarsveld helped the Hollywoodbets Dolphins produce an emphatic reply to the VKB Knights on day three of their clash at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Saturday.

After the Theunis de Bruyn-led hosts piled up a massive 487/7 declared, the visitors responded with a scintillating 323/1 in a match that is effectively a three-day encounter after day one was abandoned due to rain and a wet outfield.
Home captain De Bruyn, who was in the Standard Bank Proteas squad for their Sunfoil Test series against Sri Lanka and was only released the day before the game to play, amassed 182 (249 balls, 19 fours, 4 sixes) after resuming on his overnight 170.
The other key contributors for the Knights before their declaration were debutant Keegan Petersen after he made an unbeaten 65 (68 balls, 7 fours, 1 six) and Marchant de Lange with a powerful 42 (26 balls, 3 fours, 3 sixes).
Mthokozisi Shezi (2/60) and Andile Phehlukwayo (2/63) were the pick of the bowlers with two wickets each.
It was then the turn of the Dolphins to bat and they look untroubled in the 80 overs they faced as they scored at over four runs to the over.
Mbulelo Budaza (1/36) took the only wicket to fall when he ended the first wicket stand at 52 by removing Divan van Wyk (34), but it was one-way traffic thereafter.
Muthusamy made 130 (245 balls, 15 fours, 1 six), surpassing his previous best score of 80 in what is his eight game at this level, while Van Jaarsveld breezed his way to 154 (178 balls, 20 fours, 3 sixes) – the 16th three-figure total of his career.
Their second wicket partnership was also worth a monumental 271 and smashed the previous franchise record of 201 between Proteas star and former player Hashim Amla and Rivash Gobind against the Cape Cobras in 2005/06.
