Mtembu surprised to be Sharks vice-captain
Updated | By Andre Bloem
Tera Mtembu has been named Cell C Sharks vice-captain for their Super Rugby clash with the Reds in Brisbane tomorrow.
Mtembu, who will start at number eight in Brisbane, has expressed surprise at being given the vice-captain role.
"It came as a surprise to me. My main focus was just to be fit again and to try and stay free from injuries. I will try and help Pat (Lambie) as much as I can. I am really just excited to get out there," Mtembu said.
Mtembu expects a stern test in Brisbane tomorrow as the Reds have assembled an impressive pack of forwards.
"The Reds have recruited well this year. They have seasoned internationals in George Smith and Scott Higginbotham. So it is going to be a tough challenge for us. However, we do not want to focus too much on individuals. We know what we want to achieve and we have worked hard for 13 weeks," Mtembu stated.
Mtembu believes the set-piece will be important and says it is a part of the game to Sharks want to boss this season.
"One of our goals is set-piece dominance. It will probably be our goal for every game going forward. We know the Australians are very smart. Yet we have seen weaknesses in both their pack and in their backs," Mtembu concluded.
Kickoff is Brisbane is at 11h00 tomorrow morning - South African time.
