It was a tense final over for the South African women's side as Shabnim Ismail held her nerve to defend the ten runs that were needed.

Talking after the game, Momentum Proteas captain Sune Luus knows that in a competition of this nature you cannot under-estimate any of your opposition.

"You've got to love a World Cup game, no game's easy," she said to AFP. "I'm just happy with the team's performance, even though we're not playing our best cricket yet."

Opener Laura Wolvaardt made 75 off just 91 balls and skipper Luus chipped in with a valuable 62 off 102 deliveries as the Proteas ended their innings on, what was thought to be, a below par 223 for nine.

In reply the Pakistan side kept up with the rate for the most part however when things seemed to swing in the favour of South Africa Nida Dar's 55 brought them right back into the game.

They would have felt that they should have won the match needing just ten off the final over but Ismail's spell of bowling ended with figures of 3/41 in 9.5 overs and helped her win the player of the match award.

The fixtures do not get any easier for the Momentum Proteas now when have played, arguably, their easiest two matches and face the defending champions England in their next match on Monday.
