Messages pour in for Sundowns after Champions League win
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and all social media platforms have been flooded with good wishes for Mamelodi Sundowns, who captured the CAF African Champions League title in Alexandria, Egypt last night.
Every element of South African society, from politicians to fellow football clubs, to celebrities have taken to social media to congratulate the newly-crowned winners.
Masadawana scooped Africa's biggest club football prize in Alexandria, Egypt, last night, despite losing 1-nil to Zamalek in an emotion-charged second leg final. The work was done courtesy of a 3-nil victory at home last week.
Mayor of Tswane - where the club originates - Solly Msimanga has congratulated Mamelodi Sundowns on their success.
Msimanga says they're preparing to host the team in the capital.
The last time a South African soccer team won a major competition was back in 1996, the year Bafana Bafana won the African Cup of Nations.
The Tshwane club has now also qualified for the World Club Championship, where they could face the likes of Real Madrid in Japan.
