The KZN outfit take on a very strong and unpredictable Mpumalanga Rhino’s outfit on Sunday in a Live televised game on Supersport at 4pm.
The team is full of confidence ahead of the clash, aided by their convincing blow out of the Eastern Cape Windbreakers 94-50 this past weekend, seeing the Marlins climb up the ladder to 6th spot just behind the Western Cape Mountaineers, who upset the other KZN outfit , Duzi Royals this weekend.
Marlins Captain Nhlanhla Dlamini believes that despite the teams failure to qualify for the semi-final playoffs for the second season in a row, the youngsters in the squad would have gained some valuable experience in the BNL this season, and he feels the squad has grown stronger as a unit and this augers well for 2016.
Off the court the Marlins organisation is working tirelessly to develop the business aspects of the club, and there are some exciting developments in the pipeline for 2016. The Marlins franchise firmly believes in the abundance of talent available in Kwazulu Natal, and are adamant in investing in youth structures within the club.
In the meantime the squad will be hungry to make it 5 wins on the trot against the Rhino’s. The only change to the squad this weekend, see’s Brian Ngubane come in for Langelethu Mbhele, who has just recently returned from a hand injury, but Coach Craig Gilchrist explained that this was a tactical decision, as the team is going to need Brian’s size to match up with the Rhino’s big men.
Meanwhile, the Marlins Wheelchair Basketball team, The Wings, have qualified for the final playoffs of the Supersport Wheelchair Basketball Series, and will travel to Johannesburg themselves, to take on the Anglo Gold Ashanti Lions in Saturday mornings 11h00 quarter final. The winner of this game will progress into the Sunday’s Semi Final , where they will meet either the inform Bladerunners or the Mafikeng Mongoose.
