Director of rugby Jake White will not take charge of the Sharks during their Currie Cup campaign, the Durban union announced yesterday.

Instead forwards coach Brad Macleod-Henderson will step in as head coach when the reigning champions begin the defence of their crown in August.

Macleod-Henderson, who was assistant to Brendan Venter during last season's campaign, will have Sean Everitt and Paul Anthony working under him.

"This decision taken by our director of rugby, Jake White, comes at a time when the Sharks lie at the crest of the Super Rugby log, our Vodacom Cup side hosting a quarter-final and with the announcement of five of our players having been selected to represent South Africa at the U/20 World Cup," a statement from the coastal franchise read.

"With our players being rewarded for their hard work with good results and national colours Jake White wants to take a step back from coaching the senior side and allow for progression and evolution amongst a young vibrant coaching staff at the Sharks. "During this period Jake will mentor the future of the Sharks by spending most of his time with both the U/19 and U/21 teams throughout the Currie Cup."

The Sharks also announced that former Springboks Deon Kayser and Albert van den Berg will coach their Under-21 side, as coach and assistant respectively.

The Under-19 will be headed by James Fleming. Another ex-Bok Butch James and Ryan Strudwick will work as assistants.
