Long ban for England flanker
Updated | By AFP
England flanker Tom Wood has been banned for six weeks after admitting to stamping on an opponent's head at an independent disciplinary hearing, European Professional Club Rugby announced on Wednesday.
Wood, 30, was sent off after treading on the head of Djibril Camara during Northampton's European Champions Cup play-off win over Stade Francais last Friday.
He was expected to be banned and was left out of England's two-Test tour of Argentina as a result.
"The committee upheld the red card decision and found that Wood's stamp resulted in reckless contact with Camara's head," EPCR said in a statement.
"The committee then decided that the offence was at the top end of World Rugby's sanctions and selected 12 weeks as the appropriate entry point.
"Taking into account Wood's guilty plea, expression of remorse and good disciplinary record, the committee reduced the sanction by the maximum of 50 percent before imposing a six-week suspension."
Wood's Northampton team-mate Rory Hutchinson was banned for two weeks for tackling Will Genia while he was jumping in the same game.
