Legend Steyn retires from all cricket
Arguably South Africa’s greatest fast bowler Dale Steyn has
announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
The 38-year-old made his debut for South Africa in 2004 when he played in a test match against England and manged to finish his career with 93 test matches, 125 One-Day Internationals and 47 T20 Internationals.
Steyn took 439 test wickets in his career and finished his career as South Africa’s highest test wicket taker and finished with 196 ODI wickets and 64 T20 International wickets.
“It’s been twenty years of training, matches, travel, wins, losses, strapped feet, jet lag, joy and brotherhood,” Steyn said on his Twitter page.
“There are too many memories to tell. Too many faces to thank.
“Today I officially retire from the game I love the most. Bitter-sweet but grateful.
“Thank you to everyone, from family to team-mates, journalists to fans, it’s been an incredible journey together.”
Steyn formed a crucial part of the Proteas test side that rose to number one in the world and the speedster was revered for his ability to bowl in the sub-continent – commonly known as a spinners paradise.
The man from Phalaborwa has received praise from cricketers and fans all over the world following his announcement.
