Lambie, Willie back in Bok squad

Pat Lambie and Willie le Roux have been included in the latest Springbok squad for the remaining two rounds of the Rugby Championship.

Lambie made his return from injury in the Cell C Sharks 53-0 win over the EP Kings over the weekend. The Sharks pivot got a good half an hour on the pitch – his first taste of action after three months spent recovering from concussion.

Willie le Roux has also received a call up and will be a welcome boost to the Springbok backline – which has been lacking experience.

Lood de Jager and Julian Redelinghuys have also been named in the squad after recovering from their respective injuries. Unfortunately that means that Lourens Adriaanse is dropped from the squad.

Willem Alberts, who joined the squad last week, will remain with the group.

The Springboks will reassemble on Sunday ahead of their Test against Australia in Pretoria next week.

Other than Lambie and Le Roux’s inclusion, the Boks squad remains unchanged which coach Allister Coetzee is content with.

“Although the results have not gone our way so far in the campaign, I think it will be good to keep the current squad together so that we can build continuity,” said Coetzee.

“It’s great to have players with the experience of Pat and Willie back in the squad. The same goes for Julian and Lood, both of whom have played very well for us this year and will add something to the pack.

“Pat has been included in the squad so that our medical and conditioning team can get first-hand feedback.

“We want to ascertain his readiness and confidence for international rugby or whether he rather needs to play another match in the Currie Cup for the Cell C Sharks,” said Coetzee.
