Kosi Bay - The areas between Kosi Bay and Sodwana have seen some good fishing recently, with the bulk of the fish landed being sandsharks and some very big kingfish. Most of these reports have indicated slide traces being used. When these fish are on the run and multiple hook-ups are expected, be sure to use a good quality line such as Kingfisher Giant Abrasion which will last longer and maintain its strength throughout the usage.

Cape Vidal - Cape Vidal and St Lucia have also seen plenty of fish, but more in the edible range. Loads of fish have been landed on drop-shot as well. McArthy Paddletails in the 2-3" range have proven deadly. Wave garrick and smaller kingfish have taken both drop-shot and smaller baits in the shallows.

Richards Bay - The north has seen an abnormally high number of sandies and honeycomb rays which have been caught mainly on mackerel or shad. Bigger baits have got bigger fish in most cases. Richards Bay south has been quiet compared to the north side, yet a few species have been running in a big way. Hammerhead sharks and milk sharks have been wild, eating most baits. For a longer lifespan on your trace, use a higher test carbon coated wire. Anything over 80/90lbs will last longer than one or two fish.

Zinkwazi/Blythedale -This area has seen many grey sharks early in the mornings on mullet head or cutlet baits. A standard Mustad Big gun 6/0 on a 20cm bite trace of 80lb will do just fine for a few of these fish. There have also been reports of big shad in the Zinkwazi area. Reports of some big Zambezi sharks have also been received from anglers using swim baits.

Ballito - Some good fishing here at the moment, mostly on the deep points using mackerel slide baits or throw baits for anglers using grinder set-ups. Sandsharks and diamonds have been feeding readily on mackerel and the brown skates and grey sharks have been landed on red-eye baits.

Durban - The Durban North areas have all been fishing well and have produced some good catches of honeycomb rays and sandsharks. Shad have been feeding well off Blue Lagoon recently as well. Anglers along the beachfront near the uShaka area have also had fun with grunter, bonefish and shad, with the odd blue ray biting as well. The preferred baits have been red-eye and chokka.

Toti - This area has seen few fish, and the few have been shad and grey sharks. There have been smaller edibles around the rocks as well as one brusher reported.

Scottburgh - Has seen plenty of bonefish and brown skates off the point, with sandsharks being landed off the beach areas. There are still a fair amount of bigger shad around too.

Margate - Anglers in the Margate area have only reported shad, most of which have been targeted on drift sardine.

Transkei - Port St John's has fished well once again, with the likes of shad, garrick, kob and a few bigger sharks feeding here.
