Ocean lovers on the KZN south coast have big plans to support World Ocean's Day on 8 June.

Two major events will be taking place this Saturday – the Paddle Out for Sharks at Scottburgh and the Freedive for Dugongs at Aliwal Shoal.

All members of the public are invited to take part in the Paddle Out for Sharks at 06h30 on Saturday morning. Surfers, surf ski paddlers, jet ski pilots, divers, scientists and others will gather past backline at Scottburgh to celebrate sharks and the important role that they play in maintaining a healthy marine eco-system.

There are still spaces on some of the boats. For more information contact [email protected] or your local dive charter. You can head out on your own paddle power - although the surf may be solid on Saturday.

It’s going to be a cool Wednesday in Durban with a maximum temperature of 22 degrees. The weather will be partly cloudy with light WSW winds. There was a lot of swell around yesterday so surfers should keep an eye on their local spots. It looks like there is more big surf on the way later this week.
