Kevin Anderson on the verge of making history
Updated | By Sky Tshabalala
Kevin Anderson is on the verge of making personal tennis history after his emphatic victory over Kei Nishikori at the ATP Tour Finals in London.
Anderson took a losing 3-5 record into the match against Nishikori, their third meeting in four weeks.
He emerged with Nishikori shell-shocked after a 6-0 6-1 drubbing in just an hour and five minutes.
It was also a landmark moment for Anderson, who has now set a new career-high of 47 victories in a calendar year.
However, Anderson is not guaranteed a place in the knockout stages because of Roger Federer's straight sets win over Dominic Thiem.
Anderson plays Federer on Thursday.
A win will guarantee him a place in the semi-finals, but if he losses and Nishikori beats Thiem then we have a three-way tie in the group.
If that is the case, the following method is used to determine who goes through:
1) Highest percentage of sets won;
2) Highest percentage of games won;
3) Players' ATP Rankings coming into the tournament.
If Anderson does go through he will become the first African player ever to reach the finals last four.
