Kamberg producing trout success

We have heard reports of good trout fishing in the Kamberg over the past week.

Carp

Shongweni has produced some action after a bit of a quiet patch, seeing some good fish taken on boilies and tiger nuts. Inanda has produced more fish of decent size over the last week, with two fish being weighed in at over 10kg, both caught on fx flavoured tiger nuts. Albert Falls is also doing well with anglers using floaties with a lot of success around the slipways at the day sites. The Pelican Bay area has seen very little carp action with one camper having caught only one fish over a week’s stay. With the popularity of fake baits on the rise, and the effects of it being seen country wide, Korda pop-up Maize and Dumbells have exploded into the kit of many anglers. Many anglers seem to be preferring fake baits in the pink colour, which has been fished in most dams with huge success.

Trout

All the dams in the Kamberg area, Southern Drakensburg and Swartberg are fishing extremely well. Most anglers will be using bulky patterns in attempt to lure the fish into eating a nutritious meal. If one opts for a more finessed presentation, and does not wish to use the preferred bulky flies such as wooly buggers and papa roach's, then flies such as red eye damsels and GHRE flashback nymphs should be used.

Bass

Moving into winter the water temperature is dropping like a rock, the fish will become less active and many anglers' catch rate will drop substantially. With some fine tuning, most anglers will be able to adapt their current style of angling to the winter months to be able to catch fish even in the toughest conditions. The first and most important rule for winter fishing is to fish slower. The fish will be less willing to burn off precious energy in winter, which means that they will find a slower moving bait more appealing. Currently most of the dams are in the stage where the fish are active and are feeding on just about anything they can find, bait balls are forming and are being attacked, surface lures are being hit, fast and slow lures are being taken, if you can find the fish, you will be able to catch them.
