Jordy Smith has lost in the semi-finals of the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.
Smith was beaten by eventual champion Adriano de Souza.
The Brazilian edged Smith in a very tight heat on Tuesday and then went on to defeat Nat Young in the final.
Young was too good for Taj Burrow in the other semi-final at Bells.
Mick Fanning lost to champion, De Souza, in the quarter-finals.
Kelly Slater and Joel Parkinson both crashed out in the third round.
Durban surfer, Travis Logie, was eliminated in the second round at Bells.
Slater remains top of the world championship standings.
Fanning and Burrow share second spot.
Jordy Smith is seventh and Travis Logie 18th.
Next stop on the ASP World Tour is the Billabong Rio Pro.
The contest in Brazil is due to start on 8 May.
