John Dykes gives insight into 2016/17 Premier League season
Updated | By Benedict Ngwenya
Premier League football is back! Matchday Live presenter,
John Dykes, has taken some time out to chat to Benedict Ngwenya about the
upcoming season.
John believes Leicester City's fairy-tale last season has made this one difficult to call.
“Leicester City were a game changer because when you ask what used to be a straightforward question as you’ve just asked me, it used to be well there are three or four major contenders now I think it’s going to be them, but you simply can’t do that now because Leicester changed all that.
“They’ve demonstrated that you could be virtually relegated one season and win it the next season.
“You have to accept that given the money spent by the really so-called big clubs on players and managers then it is likely that we’re going to see someone like Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea or Manchester United winning it – however, I happen to think that what Leicester City did last season should embolden one or two clubs maybe not the most recent title winners.
A club like Tottenham Hotspur and maybe Liverpool should really think they’ve got a better squad than Leicester City and there’s every chance they could win the league. I’d like to see a club like Liverpool give it a good go,” he said.
John also weighed in on Manchester United acquiring the services of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
He also explained why he thinks John Stones is going to be an important player for Manchester City this season.
