Defeats against England and Bangladesh means the South Africans must find a way to beat Virat Kohli's team if they wanto to get their campaign back on track.

An update from the squad paints a grim picture though, with Lungi Ngidi (hamstring) ruled out while, Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn are both in doubt.

Proteas Doctor, Mohammed Moosajee confirmed that Ngidi could be out for up to ten days.

“He sustained sharp discomfort in his left hamstring after bowling the fourth over. He was assessed and clinically we felt that he had a left hamstring strain,” Moosajee said.

Ngidi is set to go for a scan on Monday to diagnose the full extent of his injury.

“The plan will probably be to get him ready for the West Indies match,” Moosajee said.

Hashim Amla continues to recover from the Jofra Archer bouncer that smashed into his helmet.

“There were concussion assessment tests done, as well as various computerised assessments done. Initially the results were what we call inconclusive, or equivocal,” Moosajee explained.

“Repeat tests were done about an hour, one and a half hours later, which were much clearer than the ones before, and that's why the decision was made to let him go out there and bat. Subsequent to the match, the next day, he felt some symptoms and therefore as a precaution, we decided to rest him from this game [Bangladesh]. The plan is to get him ready for the match against India on Wednesday in Southampton.”

There is also no guarantee that Dale Steyn (shoulder) who has not bowled a ball at the tournament will be ready either.

“He's making decent progress and he's out there bowling right now. We'll make a call before the India game as to where he is currently,” Moosajee said.
