Injuries cost Lambie says Meyer
Updated | By Staff Writer
Pat Lambie is on the Springbok bench for the Castle Lager Rugby Championship showdown with New Zealand on Saturday.
Morne Steyn, who started in Perth last week, has not been selected for the game in Wellington.
Meyer said earlier today that injuries have impacted negatively on Lambie's international hopes this season.
"Pat has not played a lot of rugby and it is always a big risk as you have to be sharp for games like this. Handre has played a lot of rugby and has done well," Meyer explained.
Meyer added that New Zealand possibly have the best kicking game in the world right now and that they have made big strides in the lineout. He also rates their ability to target the 10-12 channel and admitted today that Pollard is likely to be tested defensively in Wellington on Saturday.
Meyer also commented on his World Cup plans today and said that the Rugby Championship should make it clear who his two best flyhalves are for the showpiece next year. Meyer added that he believes Pollard can and may prove a key player at the World Cup.
