Hendricks eager for Tour Durban showdown
Updated | By Gameplan Media
In what is sizing up to be a fascinating arm wrestle for the
elite men’s title at the aQuellé Tour Durban, Clint Hendricks will lead a
sizeable Team ENZA back to one of their happy hunting grounds on Sunday 11
September.
Hendricks and the ENZA team have had many strong results at the Tour Durban with Stephan van Heerden winning the men's crown in 2019. They lost their title in 2021 but Hendricks is looking forward to returning to a race he enjoys and hopefully helping his team claim back the overall race honours.
“Durban has become a second home to me personally and the aQuellé Tour Durban has always been a great race on a great route,” said the seasoned racer, who was based in Durban when he was part of the Tasol and Team Abantu set-ups.
As a veteran of six competitive Tour Durbans Hendricks is eager to pass on his experience to some of the younger riders starting to put their hands up in his ENZA squad.
“I want to give the youngsters a chance to showcase themselves and create a platform for them to show everyone what they are capable of.
“I hope I can guide them through the event and the route and help with the tactical side of the race,” explained Hendricks. “Experience allows you to read a race and spot any dangerous moves.”
For the veteran of the local road racing scene, getting a rider onto the podium would be thrill.
“That is the ultimate goal for the team and myself as well,” said Hendricks.
“Riding the Tour Durban means you are riding with some of the very best riders in the country.
“The aQuellé Tour Durban is a must do each year,” he added. “For us it is one of the big four in the country and we are always happy to be there.”
