Good fishing at St Lucia
The latest Kingfisher report says that the St Lucia and Cape Vidal areas were good spots for fishing during the past week.
Lots of shad, kob and garrick were around both areas. Remember that size and bag limits apply to certain fish species.
Richards Bay has seen shad, kob, garrick and milk sharks on the bite recently, while Mapelane has produced lots of shad. This area has also seen the odd garrick landed this past week.
Jake Adams, a renowned expert on marine and freshwater aquariums, is coming to South Africa to speak at Durban Undersea Club. Members of the public are welcome to attend. The event is free of charge and takes place this Tuesday 30 July at 6pm at DUC.
Ocean lovers are urged to book accommodation in Scottburgh this weekend with loads of interest expected in the Africa Marine and Leisure Expo. Entrance to the Expo will be free and the event is open to all members of the public.
The Expo was born from a desire to link marine conservation with a healthy ocean-based tourism industry.
In addition to a R50 000 Surfing South Africa Pro Surf Tour surfing event, highlights of the festival include the Tag & Release Fishing competitions (deep sea and shore angling), a leisure exhibition showcasing all kinds of products related to the ocean, the KZN bodyboarding champs, live music on the beach and a bikini fashion show.
For children, there will be loads of entertainment with a festival running for the entire course of the Expo.
There are some amazing guest speakers lined up who will be present talks on the beach throughout the weekend and who will explore the issues facing the KZN coastline in more depth – not least of which is the sardine run or lack thereof in KZN this year.
These speakers include scientists, celebrity anglers, conservationists, divers and underwater photographers.
