Gold confirms attack focus
Updated | By Benedict Ngwenya
Gold, Director of Rugby at the Sharks, believes they have worked well ahead of the Vodacom SupeRugby season.
"We're relatively lucky with injuries. Unfortunately, we've got one or two but it could be a lot worse. We're really happy, especially with the intensity and the effort that the guys have put in this pre-season. We've been lucky to come away with so many guys who're in such a great shape at the moment. One or two small injury concerns. Stephan Lewies and Willem Alberts still struggling a little bit at the moment," he said.
Gold believes Willem Alberts and Stephan Lewies should be ready for action soon.
Gold admits that the Sharks have placed more emphasis on scoring tries in their pre-season work.
"We tried to take the focus into a slightly different area this pre-season and have a lot more of an attacking mindset, to ask a lot of questions of teams with ball in hand. There is a high risk to that, it requires a lot more hard work. I'm really chuffed with the work that the coaches have done. The conditioning staff and the medical staff have just worked tirelessly. I think that's the reason why our guys are in such a great shape at the moment. We're really excited to get this campaign started and obviously a big day on Saturday with our first game against Cheetahs," he added.
The Sharks will host the Toyota Cheetahs in Vodacom SupeRugby action in Durban this Saturday.
Kickoff is at 17h05.
