Faf: No excuses, there will be harsh words
Updated | By Myron Naicker
Proteas captain, Faf Du Plessis has promised to rally his side after they slipped to a second successive defeat at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
South Africa lost to Bangladesh by 21 runs at the Oval on Sunday.
Du Plessis said that there were plenty of words of encouragement and motivation after they lost to England in the opening game, but defeat to Bangladesh called for, ‘harsh words’.
“I am certainly not Mr. Nice guy. There is a time for strictness and there is a time to motivate,” said Du Plessis.
“My style of captaincy, there is a line. If you don’t perform to that line then there are a lot of harsh words.”
In previous press conferences, Du Plessis remained calm and philosophical, but this time he did not hold back in the assessment of his team’s overall performance.

“Every single player in our team is not playing to their full potential and that is why we not putting a performance on. As soon as that starts happening, then those things will change,” he said.
“Today, we were not good enough, if guys think they can make excuses for a poor performance then they will be challenged, that is a fact,” Du Plessis said..
The Proteas now head to Southampton where they face India on Wednesday.
Things could not have gone any worst for South Africa in London, but Du Plessis vowed to fight on.
“It was great to see South African [supporters] in the last two games. It makes me feel really proud to come and play. To the fans, all I can say is that we will keep on fighting,” he concluded.
