Team orders overshadow one of the most exciting races of the 2022
Formula One calendar, plus did Lewis Hamilton always know that this
year’s Mercedes had issues? All this and more in this week’s episode of
Track This on JacPod.
Arguably
one of the most exciting races of the 2022 Formula 1 season, Barcelona was all
about reliability and resilience. With drivers swapping positions every few
laps, F1 fans were definitely on the edge of their seats from start to finish,
with Max Verstappen taking the victory after a faulty power unit ended Charles
Leclarc’s race.
Avon
Middleton, Motorsport analyst and TopGear SA Director, says, “Reliability, or
the lack thereof is going to be the theme of 2022, with this new era of cars
with new regulations reliability is a thing, everybody is struggling with it.”
The
Mercedes also had overheating issues, but it didn’t stop them from illustrating
their resilience and securing a third and fifth place finish.
Track This
host radio and TV personality and motorsport commentator Kriya Gangiah touched
on their race weekend comeback story, “Finally the Mercedes had a bit of race
speed, and we haven’t seen Lewis Hamilton hunt in forever!”
Panelist
and racing driver Tschops Sipuka agrees: “Lewis is now coming back into his
comfort zone and we will see a fight between him and Russel.”
So, what
will happen at this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix? Will reliability issues show
up in the championship leading teams once again or will the resilience of the
driver shine through?
