EGGHEADS Premier League predictions: Arsenal takes on Manchester United
Updated | By Ryan Liberty
Ryan Liberty is back with his Premier League preview. Who is he backing in the huge Arsenal-United game? Chelsea are trying to keep their top four hopes alive when they face Wolves whilst Liverpool know nothing but a win is good enough.
C Palace v Brighton
Brighton’s win against Huddersfield last time out was massive for the Seagulls, if they had failed to bag all three in that game I think they would most definitely have found themselves in a relegation scrap going into the last couple weekends. Palace have been consistently inconsistent this season, but I suppose that is just the Palace way. The Eagle’s haven’t had the best home form this season, but in a derby game both sides will be up for it.
Prediction: 2 – 0
Leicester v Fulham
I can’t see past a Leicester win here. Brendan Rodgers brings that feel good factor and in his first home game for the club, I think they win this. Fulham wasn't terrible against Chelsea last time out but I put that down to the fact that Fulham didn’t have to go out and win the game, they could sit back and try and get something on the counter. In this, game they need to go out and win which plays into the hands of the likes of Jamie Vardy, James Maddison and Demarai Gray.
Prediction: 2 – 0
Huddersfield v Bournemouth
Huddersfield will be up for this game, yes they are getting relegated but I’m sure they will want to perform in front of their home fans as much as possible between now and the end of the season. Bournemouth have had another brilliant season, and with only nine points separating them for seventh-placed Wolves, you’d expect Eddie Howe and the boys to have a go.
Prediction: 1 - 2
Newcastle v Everton
This is the sort of game where Everton falls flat. Last week they played Liverpool and never really looked like conceding, you would think they’ve set a standard for themselves now. St. James’ Park has started to return to the fortress it once was and in recent weeks the fans have seen their side attack teams and earn themselves four wins on the bounce. If I’m honest, I don’t fancy Everton here.
Prediction: 2 – 1
Southampton v Spurs
You never really know what you’re going to get with this Spurs side. It has to be said that they were fortunate against Arsenal and to a certain extent I would even say Dortmund. Their Champions League result was fantastic nonetheless and the confidence boost will go a long way.
Southampton put in a brilliant performance against Manchester United and were a touch unlucky not to come away with anything. The issue for the Saints is if Cardiff manage to get a couple wins the pressure, will begin to mount.
Prediction: 1 – 2
Cardiff v West Ham
On paper this seems to be a rather simple West Ham win, but I’m not so sure. The Hammers haven’t been great away from home this season, they’ve only managed one goal on the road and have won just once in five. Cardiff on the other hand seem to have been battered and bruised from those two thrashings – against Watford and Everton – but I still fancy them in front of their home fans.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Manchester City v Watford
Watford will travel to the Etihad knowing all too well that their last visit to City ended in a 5-0 demolition job. Javi Garcia’s men aren’t in bad form by any means but I expect them to try and be compact which will suite City no end.
City’s win over Bournemouth was exactly the type of football occasionally needed to win titles. It may have been frustrating to watch but you don’t always need to win a game 6-0. That patient, well-measured mature approach is the difference right now.
Prediction: 3 – 1
Liverpool v Burnley
Tough couple of weeks for Liverpool, they are losing the title not because they are getting beat but rather because they just can’t win games right now. Incredible to think of couple weeks ago they could have been ten points clear and now with nine to go find themselves trailing City.
For me Roberto Firmino is massive for them, there’s a reason Liverpool can’t pick up maximum points when he doesn’t start for them. It’s because of the work he does off the ball as well as on the ball. He has to be one of the most underrated players in the League.
This is a massive game for Liverpool, absolutely massive. Nothing but a win is good enough.
Prediction: 3 – 1
Chelsea v Wolves
I think this will be a tough game for Chelsea. They need to win this to keep their top four hopes alive which could suggest they’ll go out and try and open the game up. Wolves seem to enjoy playing with a bit of width and if Chelsea aren’t careful they could get exposed by the pace and direct intent this Wolves side can create.
Prediction: 1 – 1
Arsenal v Manchester United
What a game this should be. Both of these sides are currently trying to ensure they are among the top four teams in the League come the end of the season. What’s getting me rather excited is the fact that neither really boast a powerful defence and both will have a go since a draw will do nothing for either team. That just points to goals a plenty surely?
Arsenal come into the fixture with a bit of confidence but, what about United! That result in Paris is the reason you play, love or support football. It was a surreal moment and one that will go down in history as a night nobody will forget. I think United will win, and although it’ll be close with Chelsea sniffing I think that’s a massive step toward securing top four!
Prediction: 2 – 3
