Durban karateka impress

Three Durban girls excelled on their mats at the recent KZN Karate Championships in Tongaat. The trio secured themselves spots in the KZN team for the SA Nationals later this month.
Pinetown JKA, based in Cowies Hill, recently took part in the WKF KKZN championships in Tongaat.
Sensei Karen Prinsloo entered several of her students and the results were remarkable.
The following girls, aged 10, 11 and 13 secured first place and a gold medal for their Unison Kata. They had only been practicing for two months as a team.
Emma-Leigh Chisholm, who is 11 has been doing karate at the Pinetown JKA Dojo for the past eight years and has a junior black belt. Emma received a gold for Team Kata, gold for Individual Kata and a silver medal for Kumite (fighting).
Eleven-year-old Gabriella Alessandri has been at the dojo for the past four years and is a red belt. She received a gold medal for Team Kata, a bronze for Individual Kata and a gold for Kumite in Tongaat.
Ten-year-old Drew Townley did martial arts for one year before joining the dojo 18 months ago and is a purple belt. She received a gold for Unison Kata and for Kumite.
The SA Nationals will take place in Tongaat on 16 May.
