Durban July - The Conglomerate tipped
Updated | By Andre Bloem
Horseracing pundit, Graeme Hawkins, has shared his tips for the Vodacom Durban July this weekend.
Greyville will host the 2017 edition on Saturday and Hawkins fancies a successful title defence.
"I am expecting The Conglomerate to become the first horse since since El Picha to win the Durban July back-to-back. El Picha won this race in both 1999 and 2000. I really fancy number seven, The Conglomerate, again this year. He is looking absolutely brilliant and I am tipping The Conglomerate to win again in 2017. The Conglomerate had to overcome a difficult draw last year when he was drawn 20. This year he has a far more favourable draw at number three," Hawkins said.
Hawkins has also shared a few other tips for the big race on Saturday.
"My second choice is something of a roughie. I am going with the three-year-old filly number 18, Safe Harbour. I think Safe Harbour will feature in the money. I also fancy both Al Sahem and Edict of Nantes. They are the joint favourites and well handicapped. Al Sahem and Edict of Nantes should both go close. The other horses I would like to mention are number eight, It's My Turn, and number 11, Black Arthur. They both represent the Justin Snaith stable. I also think that number 14, Mr Winsome, is in with a chance. The race does have a open feel to it and virtually every runner has a chance of winning. Yet let me nail my colours to the mast and say that The Conglomerate will win again this year," Hawkins concluded.
