Durban bottom fishing improving
Updated | By Staff Writer

North Coast - Anglers here made professionals of themselves with excellent marlin and sailfish action. Some of these fish stretched the scales to over 200kg. Couta, snoek and dorado were also landed in decent numbers. Sunday sure was the day to fish and Mapelane was on fire along the colour lines with tuna, dorado and wahoo coming out.
Durban - Durban experienced up and down fishing results with Sunday being the best day by far. Marcel Greyling from The Kingfisher and Ron Mattic were fortunate enough to land snoek, tuna and wahoo off Durban. One of these tuna tipped the scales at close to 30kg and was landed using a Daiwa Saltist 4500 spinning reel, 55lb Saltiga boat braid and the new Daiwa Saltist 7'6 plugging rod. There were many other fish landed around Westbrook such as couta, tuna and dorado. A few wahoo were landed as well. Number One was relatively quiet with many of the boats having headed towards the ships in attempts to make something of their day. Bottom fishing has shown some improvement as many boats came back with hatches needing to be cleaned. Rock Cod were caught off the Bluff, soldiers deep off Umdloti and general redfish off most wrecks.
Sportswave teammates, Alain Tardin and Andre Bloem, drew a blank off a jetski at Number One on Friday. They had decent bait in the form of live maasbanker and also tried their luck with rapalas. They saw a tuna breaching the surface, but could not get it to bite.
