Dunn: Scots outclassed by Boks heroics
Most greeted this news with trepidation. I however, was delighted! I even did a little happy dance in studio. Scotland are in our Pool for the IRB 2015 World Cup, so this match was very important.
I feel really strongly, that our coach needs to give more youngsters a chance. This was done for their final test with truly outstanding results.
When we played the Scots last year in SA, we did not look convincing at all. In fact we went into half-time trailing behind!! This performance, by the very proud Scots, alarmed the coaching team and extensive preparation was put into this final test.
Where the Boks struggled last week for 70 min, this week, the boys just klapped it. It was a truly classy, outstanding performance by the boys. The youngsters, Lood, Handre, Boshoff, Lwazi, Marcell Coetzee, Lewies and Oupa all showed composure, talent and enthusiasm. A record total of 8 tries against the Scots was scored. What really pleased me about this game in particular, was firstly the number of youngsters playing and secondly, the outstanding results. The Scots were totally dominated with even Lood showing them a clean pair of heels as he ran for the posts. Lwazi lived up to his nickname, ‘Umtata Express,’ by running like his heels were on fire! Willie was in a class of his own and his work rate was as usual, outstanding. It really has been wonderful to see JP return to his old form. He had a truly outstanding game and deserved his MOM award.
PE crowd get thumbs down for booing Zane Kirchner. For the record, I think that is disgusting behaviour and needs to be stopped as it diminishes the game.
The only area that needs improvement, are the scrums, as they are still a concern. Defence was absolutely outstanding. The boys smashed the Scots and I screamed so much that I lost my voice by the 4th try! I knew that the youngsters just needed a chance. They know, that to wear the jersey is a honour and a privilege and they make me very, very proud to be South African. Onwards and upwards Bokke!
