Du Plessis: Lowest point in my captaincy
Updated | By Myron Naicker
The Proteas World Cup campaign sank to new depths at Lords on Sunday as they went down by 49-runs against Pakistan.

It was their fifth defeat of the tournament and effectively knocks them out of semi-final contention.
Where there was an unlikely glimmer of hope before, it is now officially the end of the road for Faf Du Plessis’s side, despite having two games left to play.
A deflated, Du Plessis told the media in the post-match press conference that this is the lowest point in his captaincy.

“I am a very proud player and captain and playing for South Africa means a lot to me,” Du Plessis said.
“It is really tough, today became a little bit embarrassing, I am human as well, so it has been chipping at me as well,” he said.
Du Plessis admitted that the side was bereft of confidence.
“We keep making the same mistakes over and over again,” Du Plessis said.
“You know Immy bowled well but other than him it was a five out of ten performance with the ball and the same with the bat.”
“The guys are playing with low confidence and that is why they are making more mistakes.”
“Responsibility lies with every player, if confidence is an issue then you sort it out yourself. The frustrating thing is that we have more people going through lows than highs,” Du Plessis concluded.
