Dolphins on the verge of MODC play-off
Updated | By Dolphins Cricket
The Hollywoodbets Dolphins have all-but booked their spot in the Momentum One Day Cup semi-finals after their two wins from their opening two matches and will want to continue that form in their final two group matches on Thursday and Saturday.
The Dolphins dismantled the Momentum Multiply Titans in their competition opener and then followed that up with a good win over a strong VKB Knights team the following day. The subsequent match between the Knights and the Titans was rained out.
This means the Dolphins sit top of the group with nine points from two games while the Knights have got two points and the Titans have one point.
Having players in form for the Dolphins has given the coaches and captain Prenelan Subrayen a lot of confidence going into the rest of the tournament.
“Our batsmen really stepped up at different stages through the two games but from a bowling perspective a guy like Ruan de Swart also proved his salt and gave us the extra option,” Subrayen said.
“We are spoilt for choice in the team at the moment which is a really good problem to have.”
The Dolphins found themselves in some fairly familiar conditions despite having to play all their games at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom and Subrayen was happy that the side managed to use the conditions well.
“We are hoping with the make-up of our side that we get another wicket like we did in our first two games.
“With that said whatever conditions you get you have to make the best of them.
“The Dolphins have always enjoyed wickets that spin but the guys have adjusted really well in that when they got on a good wicket they cashed in and then when the wicket wasn’t as true as they would have liked they knuckled down.”
Senuran Muthusamy put in a man of the match performance against the Titans with both bat and ball and having a player like him filling that crucial middle order slot is something the Dolphins see as a massive advantage.
“The innings played into his hands because he could get himself in and we all know that Sen has that power game and he can hit a long ball.
“When he was batting at the back end I don’t think anyone was worried because if he hits it well it will clear the fence,” Subrayen added.
The Dolphins will play their penultimate group game against the Titans on Thursday with their final match of the round robin phase of the competition on Saturday.
