Dolphins Ladies basking in cup glory
Updated | By POD Media
Following their history making CSA Women's One Day Cup
triumph over the weekend, the Hollywoodbets Dolphins are embracing the achievement
as they celebrate their history making performance.
The Dolphins had to avoid defeat to the Lions in Johannesburg in order to be crowned champions. They ended up beating the Lions by 25 runs to claim a first piece of silverware for Dolphins women's cricket.
Reflecting on the season and their achievement, coach Angelique Taai couldn't have heaped more praise on her chargers.
"I mentioned during the last week that this has been coming for a while," Taai said. "We have been working very hard for three years to get to this point, so we weren't surprised by our achievement.
"The team has been incredible in their preparation and execution of our plans throughout the competition.
"To be the 50 over competition champions is a massive achievement and the team can be incredibly proud of all of their efforts."
The Dolphins won six of their ten matches that they played and lost just two matches throughout the competition with two no results. The consistency of the side in 50 over cricket has been the highlight for the coach.
"We've stuck to our processes and that has shown in our results throughout the season. We've been very good across the board and being on top of our game for such a long period of time has been very satisfying.
"We know that there are many areas of our game that we need to work hard on, but to taste some silverware will give the team a lot of confidence going into next season."
The Dolphins, across both the men's and the women's side, continue to impress nationally and for CEO of KZN Cricket Heinrich Strydom the women's team has come very far in such a short period of time.
"To think that our women's side wasn't in the top tier of women's cricket not that long ago just shows how far this group has come," Strydom said.
"They have worked extremely hard and deserve every accolade that they have received.
"We would like to congratulate coach Angelique Taai and her team on an incredible achievement and wish them all the best for next season."
President of the KZN Cricket Union Yunus Bobat echoed the sentiments of Strydom when congratulating the women's side on their achievement.
"Congratulations to the incredible Dolphins women's cricket team on making history as the first Dolphins team to win a professional women’s tournament, and the first team to win the professional women’s 50 over competition," Bobat said.
"Your hard work, dedication, and exceptional performance have truly paid off. You have set a remarkable example for all aspiring cricketers and have made KZNCU proud. Well done on this amazing achievement."
