Concussed Lambie to miss next Bok Test
Updated | By Gareth Jenkinson
Springbok flyhalf Pat Lambie has been ruled out of the second Test against Ireland with a concussion.
The Bok pivot was knocked out cold in the first half of Saturday’s 26-20 loss to the visiting Irish. Lambie was laid out on the Newlands turf after former Bulls flank CJ Stander collided with his head.
Stander took no further part in the Test, as he received a red card for the challenge. While a red card may have been harsh, the incident looked particularly nasty and Lambie had to be stretchered off the park. He was taken to hospital for scans.
Springbok coach Allister Coetzee confirmed that Lambie had suffered a concussion but scans to his neck came back with no bad news. Nevertheless Lambie will have to sit on the side lines for a couple of weeks as he recovers from the trauma to his head.
Coetzee said he wants to call-up a replacement for Lambie as soon as possible as they look to bounce back from the historic loss. Garth April seems the likely candidate to link up with the Bok squad. He trained with the side over the past two weeks, before starting for the SA A side that lost to the England Saxons on Friday night.
Elton Jantjies is the man in line to start at flyhalf next weekend.
The Boks host Ireland at Emirates Airlines Park in Johannesburg this coming Saturday.
