Carp biting at Shongweni
Updated | By Staff Writer
Carp - With most of our local dams full to capacity with holiday makers, fishing can become relatively difficult. This is the perfect time to teach the youngsters how to fish. The fish are more abundant than in the colder months, and although not as large as the average winter fish, are much easier to catch. Shongweni Dam has fished well over the last week and has produced some fine fish during the evenings. Few fish have been caught on specimen tackle. During the evenings maize used on conventional tackle has been the best bait. Inanda Dam has been busy during the days with motorboats and bathers, but has fished extremely well during the evenings. The commotion in the water during the day has a positive contribution to the fishing due to the amount of sediment which is churned up. Specimen anglers as well as conventional anglers have had good catches throughout the week.
Bass - Competitive anglers fishing Albert Falls over the weekend struggled with quality fish, but managed to boat many smaller fish in areas close to the ridge and near the river mouth. Soft plastics were responsible for most of these fish. Inanda, still struggling with the water level, has performed relatively well and has seen a few good sized bass over the last week. Anglers using crank baits have outperformed most others, fishing deep points around Taxi Bay and the cliffs. Shongweni Dam has had few reports of decent fish, but anglers fishing late into the evenings on float tubes have racked up some good numbers and size fish too.
