Bounce back time for Durban's Super Giants
Updated | By Nick Tatham
With
the second half of the Betway SA20 on the horizon, Durban's Super Giants return
home to Kingsmead where they will play the high-flying Pretoria Capitals on
Friday evening in their fifth match of the competition.
Having beaten the Paarl Royals in Durban last Sunday, the Super Giants lost their last match against the same Royals in the Cape Winelands on Tuesday before a few days break in a competition where fixtures are heavily congested.
The Super Giants have two wins and two losses from their four matches in the competition thus far while their opposition on Friday have won three of their four matches to date.
In their previous match they were unable to chase down 170 but for Super Giants all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, there is a lot to be confident about in the camp.
"If you had asked us before the tournament that we would be mid-table now we probably would have taken it," Mulder said.
"I think we underperformed in our last match against the Royals and I thought that we could have chased that 170 and we gave ourselves a good target to chase on that wicket.
"We batted poorly and let ourselves down but going into Friday's game we can take a lot of confidence in that we probably only performed at about 60 percent and still got really close.
"Things are going in the right direction and I think once things click, we will be a team to be reckoned with."
With three wins and a single defeat to their record so far this season the Pretoria Capitals sit at the top of the table. The Super Giants will need to be in good form when they face the side from Tshwane."We're excited for our game on Friday against a really strong Pretoria team who has played well recently. It's going to be a good challenge and it's not easy for a Highveld team to come to the coast.
"I'm really looking forward to the match and I feel our variation in our bowling and our batting is not something that you can prepare for especially here at the coast," Mulder added.
Durban's Super Giants middle-order batter Heinrich Klaasen currently occupies the top spot on the run scorers’ chart after four matches with Quinton de Kock in fourth. Interestingly the top four of the run scorers’ charts belong to either Durban's Super Giants or the Pretoria Capitals.
Prenelan Subrayen and Reece Topley remain the Super Giants' most successful bowlers with six wickets from the four and three matches respectively.
