Big carp at Shongweni

Big carp at Shongweni

With a noticeable change in temperature over the last two weeks or so, we will start to see a wider variety of food sources in and around our dams

Bass -  Insect and amphibious life forms will start to thrive and by December our waters will be full of large shoals of baitfish and small Bass. It is the preferred time of year for the majority of anglers in KZN and it also becomes the best time of year to take the youngsters down to the dam. The fish become more active and prefer a faster moving bait, allowing our not so patient learners to have more fun. Albert Falls will fish extremely well around all of the slipways, river section, the Ridge and also Kyalami Bay. At Inanda the reed lines towards the north and south primary points of each bay will produce any strikes on weightless plastics such as flukes and frogs. It is also a lot easier to wake up in time for sunrise and to fish later due to sunrise and sunset times. Dams such as Inanda have already seen improved fishing in the shallows which is an excellent sign.

Carp - With the temperature increase, things are looking good for most anglers fishing at Inanda, Shongweni and Nagle.  Shongweni has produced some big fish in the past week and should be going strong until the end of October where things start to taper off and smaller fish become more predominant. Inanda has been more successful for anglers holding tight to structure, which will slowly start to change over the next month. Be sure to use a Korda sinking line or Daiwa Sensor in order to avoid being cut off by boats as the warmer water brings on much more boating and skiing activity. Albert Falls has already started to produce some smaller fish, but reports of some huge Carp have been heard. These Carp have been landed towards the back of Kyalami Bay from boats.
