Anderson retains top ranking

Kevin Anderson has retained his career-high world ranking, despite a disruptive build-up to the Wimbledon tournament in London.

Anderson remained 23rd in the latest ATP ratings list released on Monday.

The SA men's number one withdrew from the Queens tournament two weeks ago with a niggling shoulder injury and was eliminated by Frenchman Julien Benneteau in the first round of the Aegon International tournament in Eastbourne last week.

Anderson reached the fourth round of the Australian Open in January and the French Open last month, but has never made it beyond the second round of the grasscourt Grand Slam event at the All England Club.

Seeded 27th, he faces Belgian veteran Olivier Rochus, who is playing his 14th successive Wimbledon tournament, in the first round of the men's singles competition on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Chanelle Scheepers climbed one place to 67th in the latest WTA rankings ahead of her Wimbledon campaign.

Scheepers, the only other South African in the main singles draw, will square up against Italian 11th seed Roberta Vinci, who reached the fourth round of Wimbledon last year, in the opening round of the women's singles on Tuesday.

The SA women's number one will be hoping to reach the second round at the All England Club for the first time.
