ANCYL expresses concern over SA football

"The fact that we have been failing to qualify for any major international tournaments, AFCON and FIFA World Cup, expresses a deep-seated crisis with the development structures," said African National Congress Youth League spokesman Bandile Masuku.

The league called on the SA Football Association (Safa) to provide solid leadership with a solid vision in soccer.

Masuku said Safa should roll out plans to have the national youth teams playing frequently, for youngsters to gain exposure and a competitive advantage that would add value to Bafana Bafana in future.

The league also proposed the inclusion of females in Safa's national executive committee.

"We raise this because the current committee has only two females out of 40 members. "This situation undermines our collective drive as a nation towards the transformation of all our institutions to be gender representative."

The ANCYL urged the SA Rugby Union to develop rugby in the rural areas to ensure black people were included in the sport.

Masuku said the inclusion of blacks in rugby was slow.

"They must have a direct hand in the establishment and strengthening of school rugby tournaments in black communities," he said.
