Martin, who has signed a three-year deal with the KZN-based side, has been roped in to replace Ayanda Dlamini, who was relieved of his duties towards the conclusion of the previous season

The PSL side’s president Sandile Zungu says they interviewed a number of candidates before settling on the Spaniard.

Some of the 43-year-old tactician’s former teams include Simba SC in Tanzania, Qadsia SC in Kuwait, as well as Getafe in Spain.

“We are absolutely delighted at the quality of the parties that we interviewed, who shared with us their ideas about Usuthu,” says Zungu.

“Usuthu is loved and seen as a very attractive prospect. We emerged with one name. A name that the players will be very happy with, the supporters, sponsors, and directors of AmaZulu Football Club. We believe that the local league will be richer with a person of this gentleman’s calibre coming to the DSTV Premiership.”

In true Usuthu tradition style, Gwabini has dubbed Spaniard, “Cijimpi” which is synonymous with the sharpening of Zulu warriors to war.

Martin will join the squad next week to begin his pre-season programme.
