This is one of the key discussion points that emerged from a live chat on Twitter hosted by African Union chairperson Nkosazane Dlamini Zuma.
Commemorating International Youth Day, the AU hosted a two-day conference to discuss how to improve the role of the African youth.
Ten students from universities in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa were invited to join the chat hosted at the headquarters.

The former Home Affairs Minister stated the importance of easier trade and travel between African countries.

Better educational and business opportunities should be made availabe in the continent, she said.
People will still go to #Europe and #America, but they must go out of choice, not out of desperation. #YouthDayAU #YouthDay

The goal is to have 30% of women in Parliament, she tweeted.
