Works on faulty Durban water pump almost complete: Umgeni
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
Umgeni Water says the Durban Heights Water Works pump that failed nearly a month ago is expected to be reinstalled within the coming days.
The failure of the pump affected water supply to some households in the northern and southern parts of Durban.
Umgeni Water dismantled it and sent it to a workshop in Gauteng for refurbishment.
The utility's spokesperson Shami Harichunder says the work is progressing well and ahead of schedule.
"We still have a situation in which there is water shortages occurring at Durban Heights. My appeal to all consumers is that to please use water sparingly. Do not hoard water and do not drink more water than you require for one day.
"What we find happening is that the moment we switch on the systems at Durban Heights Water Works, reservoir two drains out very quickly, it's a very sad reflection that people are taking water in large amounts.
